There are 3 different levels of data protection systems that Private Internet Access is currently implementing. First, the VPN provider is using both the 128-bit AES encryption system and the 256-bit AES encryption system. Second, the virtual private network platform uses both SHA1 and SHA256 as data authentication systems. Third, Private Internet Access uses 2048-bit and 4098-bit RSA handshakes.
While settings can be adjusted, the virtual private network provider advises that I should use the maximum recommended protection of the combination of 256-bit AES, SHA256, and RSA-4096. However, I learned that the default option is the combination of the AES-128, SHA1, and RSA-2048 setting. As the user of the VPN platform, I have the power to customize the settings.
